F. W. L. Sladen, The Humble Bee
hibernacle, underground winter nest in which the humble-bee queen hibernates; the wax honey-pot is the size of a thimble; Psithyrus produce no workers, their queen usurps the nest of other humble-bee species, kill their queens and then enslave her workers. Sladen records that Psithyri have a tendency to resemble their host species; they have mail-like protective coats and sip nectar lazily.
